Tees Solar Farm is a proposed 49.9 MW solar farm east of Yearby village, near Redcar.

EDF Renewables is proposing to install a solar farm east of Yearby village, adjacent to the A174 near Redcar. The combined renewable electricity from the proposal and our existing wind farm off the coast of Redcar will help deliver our ambitious plans to develop our Tees Green Hydrogen development, located on the former SSI steelworks site. The solar farm’s public consultation will run between 28 March and 25 April 2022 where we are seeking the views of the public to shape our plans. We plan to submit a planning application to Redcar Borough Council in summer 2022.

Our initial feasibility assessments indicate the site is well suited for a solar farm. The site will connect into the former steelworks site via underground cabling and will have an output power capacity of up 49.9 MW (Megawatts), which is equivalent to supplying the average annual electricity needs of approximately 9,800* homes.

We are holding a public exhibition for the solar farm on 12 April, from 10:30am to 6pm at the Council Chamber, Redcar Community Heart, Ridley Street, TS10 1TD. Alternatively, you can sign up to a live online presentation on 13 April at 6:30pm, by emailing teessolar@edf-re.uk to register.

Full details of how you can engage with us and provide feedback on the proposals are found within this virtual exhibition. Please take the time to view the available information and contact us with your thoughts.
