Freneystown is a proposed c.50MW wind farm northeast of Kilkenny city.

Freneystown Wind Farm is a proposed c.50MW project in an area predominantly occupied by pasturelands in County Kilkenny.

Following our first round of public consultation, we have refined our plans to an eight-turbine project, with a tip height of up to 185m, capable of powering more than 35,000 homes across Ireland.*

We intend for any future planning application to be based on this layout, however this may be subject to change as we gather more information through detailed environmental studies which will take place in the coming months, and through consultation with local residents and other interested stakeholders.

The project will also include access tracks, a substation, battery storage containers, a temporary construction compound, a permanent meteorological mast, underground cabling and a grid connection which links the wind farm to the national electricity grid.

We will be holding a public consultation event at a local venue as soon as practicable where we will be presenting detailed project information and photomontages showing what the wind farm could look like from different local viewpoints. It is our intention to submit a planning application and an Environmental Impact Assessment Report in support of the project to the relevant authority in 2024.

Subject to planning permission, the wind farm could be constructed and operational by 2028. A Community Benefit Fund commensurate with the size of the final project will be established to provide funding for local community initiatives and activities.
