In late 2020, EDF Renewables Ireland acquired this solar project, along with 7 other similar developments, from Wexford Solar Ltd. Planning permission had previously been granted in March 2016 and construction will begin on 4 May 2021.
The new solar farm will be located across 47 acres and consist of ground-mounted solar panels and an electrical substation. Once completed, Blusheens Solar Farm will have a capacity of 8MW, powering c.3,200 homes across Ireland with low-carbon electricity.
Construction is due to take 10 months, with the project to be completed by February 2022 at the earliest.
Blusheens Solar Farm will also support the Irish Government in achieving its goal of increasing the share of electricity provided by renewable sources from 30% in 2018 to 70% by 2030.
