Kilsallagh wind farm

Kilsallagh Wind Farm is a proposed wind farm to the south of Bellacorick in County Mayo. It could consist of at least 13 turbines with tip heights of up to 200m.

The project will also include access tracks, a substation, battery storage containers, a temporary construction compound, a permanent meteorological mast, underground cabling and a grid connection which links the wind farm to the national electricity grid.

The proposed site is located in a forested area to the northeast of Slieve Carr, approximately 8km southeast of Bangor Erris.

The 13-turbine project is now before An Bord Pleanála to determine whether it constitutes Strategic Infrastructure Development. We intend for any future planning application to be based on this layout, however this may be subject to change as we gather more information through detailed environmental studies which will take place in the coming months, and through consultation with local residents and other interested stakeholders.

EDF Renewables Ireland intends to submit a planning application and an Environmental Impact Assessment Report in support of the project to An Bord Pleanála in 2024.

Subject to planning permission, the wind farm is expected to be operational in 2028. A Community Benefit Fund commensurate with the size of the final project will be established to provide funding for local community initiatives and activities.
